Heroic Train Staff Member Suffers Severe Wounds Amid Mass Stabbing Incident on Express Train
A valiant train staff member who stepped in to protect passengers during a mass knife incident on a express train has suffered critical injuries, police stated on Sunday.
Details of the Terrifying Incident
CCTV video allegedly shows the employee attempting to stop the attacker as the train journeyed between Peterborough and another station in the county. Bystanders recounted a terrifying 14-minute period after the train left Peterborough, with bloodied victims fleeing through carriages.
The individual, a 32-year-old British national from Peterborough, is in custody for questioning. Police announced a significant event on the 6:25 pm service from Peterborough to King's Cross in downtown London.
Crisis Response and Aftermath
The event on the weekend led to 11 people being cared for in hospital after the train made an unplanned stop at platform 2 in Huntingdon. Five people have now been discharged from hospital.
A bystander filmed the individual waving a big knife and being subdued with a Taser as he confronted police on the platform. He was reportedly heard shouting, "End my life, end my life."
“This terrible incident has affected many people. Our sympathies go out to the injured and their loved ones – especially the courageous member of rail staff whose family are being supported by specialist officers,” said a senior police official.
Labor Reaction and Calls for Measures
Train associations were quick to commend staff and demand increased measures. One labor leader said he would be “seeking urgent meetings with authorities, train companies and law enforcement to guarantee that we have the strongest available support, tools and effective protocols in operation”.
Another association leader encouraged the rail company and government “to move swiftly to review safety, to support the affected employees, and to ensure nothing like this occurs again”.
Driver Commended for Quick Action
The operator who halted the service at Huntingdon was described as being “very shaken” but “well”, and has been praised by association officials for doing “exactly the right thing”.
“He did not stop the train in the middle of two stations where it’s obviously challenging for the emergency services to access, but he continued traveling until he arrived to Huntingdon, where the assistance was pretty much waiting,” explained a association official.

Police said they received the first distress reports at 7:39 pm, and the train was compelled to make an unscheduled stop in Huntingdon at 7:50 pm.
An witness recounted initially thinking if the situation was a Halloween prank, but quickly understood from people's faces that it was real.
Police have confirmed there is no evidence to suggest the incident was a terrorist attack and have asked the public to provide with any additional information.
Rail services on the impacted line are anticipated to have delays until the following day, with passengers recommended to defer their journeys where possible.
